The benefits of body scrubs

Recently, we wrote about how often you should get a facial, explaining skin cell turnover rate. Because the skin on your face is the same skin that covers your entire body, we should treat it the same. This means, your body needs the same nurturing you give your face.

Body scrubs are a delightful way to exfoliate and moisturize your skin. Plus, they smell A-MAZING!

Benefits of Body Scrubs

What are the benefits of body scrubs?

  • Body scrubs remove dead skin-cell buildup. So, after a scrub, your skin can absorb moisturizer better.
  • Scrubs unclog pores and prevent ingrown hairs.
  • The best benefit: body scrubs leave your skin smoother, helping to eliminate a dull, rough look and feel.

You can use a body scrub once or twice a week if your skin is not sensitive to the scrub. Sensitivity could be due to the type of scrub or how hard you are exfoliating. Always apply pressure that is firm, but not aggressive.

Types of Body Scrubs

The two most common types of body scrubs use sugar or salt.

We use sugar-based scrubs at The Floating Lotus. The glycolic acid in sugar naturally exfoliates dead skin cells.

A salt scrub, another option you might come across, can help hydrate your skin by pulling water into it. But, if you have recently shaved your legs, the salt scrub can create a not-so-pleasant stinging sensation.

Ready to try a body scrub for yourself? We have some that are sure to send you into a state of relaxation.

Also, during July 2022 we are offering a spa appointment special: Book a full body scrub and mini facial, plus a full-size Honey Heel Glaze for $128. Our scrub scents are Watermelon Basil Vodkatini or Sweet Tea. You can purchase these scrubs in our shop, too, to continue the luxurious experience at home.

Or, you can make a fun scrub recipe with ingredients in your pantry. This is one of Cassandra Benning’s favorite homemade scrubs:

DIY Watermelon Sugar Scrub

Got extra watermelon hanging around??? Some summers, I get watermelon overload. Instead of throwing it out, I use it to make a watermelon scrub!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of watermelon chunks at room temperature, seeds removed
  • 1/4 cup of oil, melted (Coconut is great!)

Instructions:

Puree the watermelon in a blender, then place it into a bowl.

Stir the sugar into the watermelon.

Add your melted oil into the watermelon and sugar mixture and stir.

Store this mix in an air-tight container and store in the refrigerator for up to one week.

To Use:

Use this body scrub in the shower: Apply it in circular motions over your entire body; rinse off and pat body dry. Enjoy your exfoliated skin!
